HAPPY NEW YEAR! Tips for 2025 @tips4realestate

Happy New Year! Another holiday season is in the books and now it’s time for the clean-up!

Many start the new year in full decluttering and cleaning mode, but if you haven’t ramped up to that level of commitment, you can ease into it by starting with filters. It is easy to get busy with our daily lives and ignore the systems that run our homes. To keep things running smoothly, here are a few areas to check. If you are unsure about how to change or clean a filter, always check your appliance manual or online for the correct information for your model.

HVAC - Your HVAC system is probably working overtime right now. Along with keeping youwarm or cool, it also acts like the lungs of your home to filter dust, pollen and other airborne particles. Change or clean these filters regularly not only to maintain the air quality in your home but to keep your system running smoothly.

Water - Whether you have a whole-house, faucet/shower head, refrigerator, or pitcher filter in your home, check these filters regularly to ensure a high-quality product for drinking, cooking and showering.

Range Hood/Microwave – If you did a lot of cooking over the holidays this filter probably needs your attention. The hood or microwave filter above your stove plays a crucial role in removing smoke, odors, and grease generated during cooking.

Vacuum cleaners – These filters are a second line of defense for air quality and play a crucial role in keeping your home clean by trapping dust and allergens, especially if you have pets.

Washer/Dryer –Keeping these filters clean helps your machines work more efficiently.Remove lint from the dryer filter after each load. This not only helps your clothes dry fasterbut can reduce the risk of fires by decreasing lint build-up in your exhaust pipe. Not allwashers have a filter, but if it does, periodic cleaning can help with better water drainage andminimize odors.

Dishwasher – This filter comes with a bit of an “ick” factor, but regularly cleaning your dishwasher filter helps maintain machine performance. Over time, food particles, grease and debris will build up on the filter and can affect water drainage. If dirty water can’t drain properly, it will be recirculated through the wash cycle leaving that residue on your dishes. Cleaning the filter regularly can extend the life of your dishwasher and ensure clean dishes.

Regularly taking time to attend to these simple maintenance items will keep your home systems running at optimal performance, saving you time and money in the long run!
