Inexpensive Updates for Your Kitchen

If your kitchen is starting to show its age, you don't necessarily have to get out a sledgehammer or empty your wallet to give your kitchen the facelift you're looking for. Spring is a great time to open the windows and get to work on bringing the heart of your home into the look of this decade.

Here are 5 Inexpensive Updates:

  1. Fresh paint. It sounds easy enough, right? But you can do more than focus on the walls. Consider freshening up the trim with a bright white, and refresh your white ceiling or branch out and change it up with a fun accent color. Don't have the budget for new cabinets? Paint them! Click here for some tips on doing that well.
  2. New lighting. Many people overlook their builder's grade lighting, but spending a few extra dollars on a fixture that could become a talking point could make a huge difference. Click here for 50 ideas from House Beautiful.
  3. Hardware. You could get lost in the number of options here, but there are a plethora of ways you can update your cabinet nobs, drawer handles, and faucets to change up the look of your room. Click here for some ideas.
  4. Buy an Island. Not that kind of island. The kind that can become the centerpiece of your whole kitchen! Some companies will build to order, and you can save money by painting it yourself. Or, you can shop here for ideas that can be delivered to your front door.
  5. Clean Out. This one is the least expensive! Clean out your junk drawer. Find space under your cabinets to store those small appliances that are not used every day. Get rid of anything you have doubles of. Do you need two toasters? Two can openers? Creating space will make you love your kitchen even more.
